  1. Hacking is going out on a pleasurely ride with your horse and sometimes with other people. Half halting is when you slow down whatever pace you are in so it is almost the next pace down..

Lol to all the other answers :D must have gone to 'general questions' page first :) haha

  2. Hacking is a fancier term for exercising your horse. This can be cross training or just training in general.

A half halt is a little harder to explain. Basically, it is an aid that you give your horse to slow down but not change gaits. Usually the aid is given with the outside reign and reinforced with mostly the inside led but a little outside leg. You need to be sure to use a lot of leg when giving the aid if your horse is green (inexperienced) because he/she can get confused and think that you are asking them to stop. By giving the leg, you are letting your horse know that you do not want them to stop but just slow their pace.

    Hope that helped! :D

  3. It's either a nice, leisurely trail ride - or the warm-up/warm-down routine (walk, trot, canter) you perform prior to any really strenuous exercises (heavy dressage training or jumping etc.)

And you should spend at LEAST 20 minutes warming up and 20 minutes warming down per ride - in addition to a cool-down walk at the end.

  4. Hacking- Just a trail ride. I always called it trail ride, but, oh well.

Half Halt- a Squeeze on a reign that tells the horse to slow down.

  5. half halt is when you apply gentle pressure to your reins requesting them to slow down, from trot to walk or walk to slow walk etc

hacking is a type of riding that i believe is done in a group, i think it is more casual than most types of showing, but i am not absolutley sure

  6. Actually I think it's a great question! Hacking is sort of like the English version of a trail ride. Like when they just go out for a nice ride, whether it's on the road, on a trail, etc.

Sorry, I'm not completely sure what a half halt is. So I can't really help you with this one.

Hope I helped you a little bit! Good luck!

  7. Hacking is when you go into rings where you tend to just walk, trot, canter agent's horses. half halt is when you put slight pressure on the rains and then release doing this many times to slow the horse down.

  8. I presume you mean in horse terms right? Well, a half halt is according to the FEI : 'the half-halt is a hardly visible, almost simultaneous co-ordinated action of the seat, the legs and the hand of the rider, with the object of increasing the attention and balance of the horse before the execution of several movements or transitions to lesser or higher paces. In shifting slightly more weight onto the horse's  quarters, the engagement of the hind legs and the balance on the haunches are facilitated, for the benefit of the lightness of the  forehand and the horse's balance as a whole.' It is basically used to slow a horse down without actuall stopping or moving down a agit. Hacking is when you take your horse out for rides that aren't in the school- you might go on the roads, trough fields on a bridle path etc. Hope this helps!

  9. Hacking has many meanings. In horse terms it means a flatwork ride. Walk, trot, canter both ways. Half Hault means slow down your horse. Maybe from trot to canter you half hault. Dont sotp but switch gaits or slow down a little.:)

  10. hacking is when someone steals your password or puts a virus on your computer stuff like that

  11. hacking, at our barn at least, is when we just go ride our horses to exercise them.  just walking, trotting, and cantering... no jumping.

half halting is when you pull and release on the reins during a trot or canter.  it is used instead of just pulling on the reins the whole time to make your horse halt.  half halting just helps collect the horse and slow it down, without changing the horses gait.

    i hope this helps!!  :]

  12. It's the English version of trail riding.

Just going out for a ride.

Edit> Half halt is a method of steadying up your horse, recollecting it when it's running on and balancing it.

Edit> On a hack you can do anything depending on where you are going - roadwork, bridleways, private land (with permission) etc. We walk, trot, canter, gallop and jump regularly. The length of time you are out is up to you and you can go alone or with friends. It's great fun.

Edit> I spy an immature troll - thank you for the thumb - I will treasure it

  13. there are two diffrent types of hacking there is hacking in to someones accoutand stealing there password or going on a horse ride out on to the beach or into the woods hope this helps. =)

  14. Now you tell, anyways hacking on a horse means when your on him you jump on him when his not jumping, like your jumping up and down on your butt. Have a great day!!! Or the other meaning for hacking a horse would be like a stranger going in a farmer's barn in the middle of the night and stealing it away without the farmer knowing!!!

  15. Like going into someones internet email etc account without you permission/knowing

  16. Hacking generally refers to the casual riding of a horse at a normal pace (without cantering or galloping for example). This makes it ideally suited to group outings as even the less experienced riders can easily keep up with the rest of the group. Many of the people who own a horse do so so that they can go hacking. Hacking can take place in the countryside, on paths and bridleways, and on the roads.

A half halt is a semi collected movement used to reduce the impulsion or forward movement of the horse without losing the horses frame.

  17. Ok so this is under the horse section so I am presuming you mean Hacking out which is a ride out somewhere on the roads or up the mountains. Somewhere relaxing and not schooling in an arena anyway.

A half halt is the rider saying to the horse 'Hey I am going to ask something from you in the next moment balance yourself'  And the horse things 'Ohoh she is going to ask me to do something. A transition up or down? Are we going to go for that jump? Or is it just a trick to keep me awake? I'd better get myself balanced and ready just in case to be prepared!!!" In other words what XXjust meXX above says, the weight being shifted to the hind quarters though

  18. I'm guessing you mean hacking a horse? That is just doing basic walk, trot, canter work. No jumping. Half-halting is when you pull and release on a horses mouth. Instead of pulling all the time, you pull until the horse listens, and then you release. Or you can do quicker pull and releases.

    Hope I helped =)

  19. well there is hacking through bushes, [chopping violently through thick bushes]

and there is hacking through passwords and into data bases and stuff [ finding a way through a computer without the owners permission via entering codes and stuff]

  20. Hacking is where u go out on a ride out of a school, like humans go walking on footpaths, horses hack with their riders.

A half halt is where you remind your horse to listen to you by asking them to slow down then go forward again.

  21. lol! people arent recognising that ur question is in HORSES.

anyway. there are 2 types of hacking. The one this lot are on about is about computers =] lol. Anyway, the hack you want to know about is where you ride your horse into the countryside or on a road. e.g ''I'm taking my horse for a hack, want to come?'' or something like that. Make sure you only hack on a pony or horse you can trust, in case they spook and you REALLY DO NOT want that to happen. Maybe if you have never hacked before go with an experienced friend.  Hope this helps!

  22. Hacking is like racing in the woods and trail, pretty much and a half hault is when you pull back and release remember use leg when you half hault so your horse doesn't break

    hope this helps.....please best answer!

  23. Hacking is riding at an ordinary pace, no jumps, just working on the flat, not training..its just giving the horse a break. also like a trail ride, but with nothing challenging.. Pleasure or recreation riding! but mostly just working on the flat. Hunter Hack is a combination of hunter and hacking.. hunter - jumping hacking - working on the flat (walk, trot, canter)

A half halt is barely noticable. It is a quick snap of the wrist, and you do this when you want to get your horses attention when you are about to go from a walk to a trot, or a trot to a canter, or a canter to a trot, or a trot to a walk. It gradually slows the horse down. You can also use this to stop - you just keep doing the quick wrist snaps. It looks way better than yanking on the reins and pulling constantly to get them to stop.

    Hope it helped! c:

  24. Hacking is exercising out on the trails to avoid getting a horse burned out on flat or ring work.

It is half way to a halt. It is used to get a horse's attention, and to ask him to balance. You use a half-halt when you are about to ask the horse to do something: to go from a trot to a canter, to make a turn, speed up or slow down without changing gaits, or most anything. Keeping contact on the reins, you squeeze your seat to ask him to slow down, and you squeeze your calves to ask him to move forward.
