quite a few homophobic people actually turn out g*y themselves as they were in denial with themselves

Homophobia is the irrational fear of homosexuals and homosexuality.  It is not the same as being g*y, although there are some g*y people who will have homophobia prior to their coming out of the closet.  Some g*y people will be afraid of being discovered and will live in fear.  These people are said to have &quot;internalized homophobia.&quot;

Some people object to the word because they say they have no &quot;irrational fear&quot; of homosexuals, they just believe that homosexuality is wrong.  In cases like these, a better word would be &quot;heterosexism,&quot; or, the belief that heterosexuality is superior to being g*y and that g*y people are inferior.
