/why are some people so stupid? Eight Belles had to be put down?

Eight belles could never have survived that injury. How can a horse heal from two broken ankles? It cant. It has to stand and if both front ankles are broken it cant do that. SOme people are morons and i see all of these idiots talking out of their *** as if they just put the horse down for the fun of it. The horse would have been a lot more valuable to them alive than dead. Future prizemoney and breeding potential was far greater than whatever insurance money they got.

It's tragic that she had to be put down, but it was necessary - no horse could survive that. Some people just don't know what they're talking about and 'shoot from the hip' instead of thinking their responses through.

I agree! She was in PAIN and had 0 chance of recovery. They totally made the right decision. There wasn't anything they could do. Trying to keep Eight Belles and attempt recovery would be almost cruel, she wouldn't have survived anyways.

And to those people that think they didn't even try, they did. These people would have been willing to do anything for Eight Belles, and they made the right decision.

They either lost money at the race or support PETA.....

PETA is another group that consists of liberal leftist extremists..... They splash "red paint" symbolizing blood on people that wear leather or fur clothing..... They hold "die-ins" and practice civil disobedience when protesting stuff like "dead cockroaches", "circus animal behavior" or "bird habitats" are threatened.....

I feel sorry for the horse, but considering they cannot be easily "repaired" or fitted with prostetics like humans when broken limbs occur, freak accidents such as this and the one that occurred to Barbero are unfortunate, but PETA always has to point fingers and blame others when accidents do happen and the trainers/jockeys don't hurt their animals on purpose.

The world would be a better place if PETA and Greenpeace just concentrates on preserving the wildlife of the world and not wasting their time on issues that don't have to do with animal abuse.

Yeah there was nothing they could have done and putting her out of her misery was the best thing they could do. On another question like this a little kid said "Like in Dreamer when they hung her up in a sling" well that was a movie!

i agree with everything you say! the only reason i can give as to why people make these stupid comments is, they no nothing about horses, they probably watch 1 or 2 races a year they see a tragedy and they jump up and down thinking they know everything......... BLOODY IDIOTS!!!!!!

The weight of a horse needs to be distributed evenly.

How could a horse distribute all that weight on 2 legs?

It was a tragic thing that happened but no horse could survive that.
