  1. The restaurant must be clean - especially the bathrooms.  If the bathroom is filthy and there is no soap (as I have experienced in some restaurants), then I do not want to dine there.  How  do the employees wash their hands after using the bathroom and before handling the food?

  2. If the restaurant doesn't look good or clean, I won't eat there.

  3. Yes - atmosphere is almost as important as the food, and if it was dirty I wouldn't eat there, because the kitchens would be worse.

  4. Appearance has a great deal to do with it.  If the place is dirty, I'm not going in.  I also think that if its lunch or dinner time and a restaurant is empty, I don't go in either.

  5. If I don't like the decorations then that's okay, but if the restaurant isn't clean then I feel gross eating the food and usually stop after one or two bites.

My grandma won't even go into a restaurant if the windows aren't clean.

  6. Both must be perfect.

  7. If the dining room is not right and the service is not special then the food might as well be rubbish.  The food, although the main reason one goes to restaurant, is not the be all and end all of a dining experience.  Equally the dining room and service may be the best one has seen but if the food is terrible then there is no point.

  8. I suffer with stomach problems so go for those that look clean. I can manage with salads.

  9. Atmosphere means alot when dining out.The lighting, decor, and arrangements are all important. The style of cooking and serving mean almost as much as fine food. Subtle things that make eating out relaxing and pleasureable, and makes you want to come back,or even refer the eatery to others.

  10. All about the food, the decor is only bothers me when it comes to cleanliness.

Some of the greatest places are the worst looking places. Because they're chefs not interior designers. :)

  11. If the restaurant is dirty or in disrepair then I will not go back. That indicates to me that  the management either don't care, don't have the money for repairs or  haven't noticed. All of which immediately make me wonder what else they are cutting corners on or not noticing. I can however live with bad decor. My  favourite  Vietnamese restaurant was  obviously decorated by a blind man with no taste but the food is sensational. All I have to do now is learn to eat with my eyes closed ;)

  12. I really like beautiful atmospheres to look at while I am sitting there eating for an hr. One time me and my hubby wallpapered a restaurant on a Sunday and installed new draperies and the next night we ate there and I said hey don't you think the restaurant is decorated up nice to my hubby. LOL He said ya I wonder who did the design. LOL

  13. both. i don't like to eat at a dirty restaurantand if the sucks i won't go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. It should be warm and inviting and clean, If the toilets aren't clean it doesn't bode well for the food.

  15. For me, it's just about the food.  I've been to some restaurants that looked totally c**p, but then served the best food!!

  16. both if not clean and tidy i will walk out.!!

  17. The look and "feel" is almost as important as the food. If a restaurant doesn't look and feel "right" I won't eat there.

  18. When in the army, I used to frequent a cafe/restaurant near our camp, the place was a disaster, the "lady"who owned it was as rough and as tough as a heavyweight wrestler. She was a superb cook with a heart of gold who looked after "her lads". Wherever you are now, Big Mary, lots of love and Merry Christmas !

  19. It must have clean toilets I just hate a  restaurant with unclean toilets.

  20. wel, its a tough one, clean  toilets - with toilet roll - are a must, however I recently had a Christmas lunch at a hotel - day trip, and the hotel was very olde english mansion inside - almost, the hotel provided extras for their guests, including a glass of champagne or a sherry on arrival, the use of the hotel games room, plus other amenieteis (not inlcuding the hotel rooms -unless you wanted to pay extra for those) however the meal was very good financial value - BUT the forks were filthy (and I mean their was washed coated on food from the last diners!) - Oh and bent, the main course  lacking in taste, if you asked water - they' didnt' have a small jug of water - just ieeny tiny 'tumblers' (remembering the price was inclusive and paid for)you  plus my dinner guest - found a hair in their Christmas pudding!!!!!!!!!!!!

So the setting was beautiful and right on the seafront, the hotel (NOT A NAFF B&B!) was lovelly to look at - I was even considering having a function there int he future - up until the meal.

Sometimes you can get a lovelly meal from a 'cafe' and it be less than ambient, however thisplace had the setting - but I later heard from another guest - that they'd just recently re-opened due to a food poisoning scare!!!!!!!!!! - after the meal, the travel agents never mentioned anything - of course.

The staff though they served the meal quickly were clearly overworked.  The meal had 4 courses, the place was lovelly to be in, I wouldnt however recommend eating anything from there again until they get a new chef and wash up properley.

  21. I do care, because you can tell what a resaurant will be like by its looks. So, I wouldn't go into a very good looking one b/c I know it will be a rip-off!

  22. if a resturant looks bad i wouldnt eat in there

  23. yes to enjoy the food you are eating i believe you should have pleasant surroundings, it doesn't matter how good the food is it will not justify a dirty restaurant

  24. yes, needs to be clean.

  25. I've seen a lot of restaurants who have delicous foods and dirty kitchens and restrooms with no hand soap.  I no longer eat at these restaurants.  If they can't be diligent with their sanitation, heaven knows what they are cooking with and the safety measures of food preperation.

  26. Both. If the restuarant is not hygeneic, even if the food is great I'll feel bad. Also, if the place is neat, but food is bad, who'll go there?

  27. If the front of house is dirty or poorly decorated then the kitchens might be organised to the same standard. I have also been into some really wonderfully decorated restaurants but on passing the kitchen on my way to toilets or exit etc I have seen some horrible ones. On two occasions I saw a filthy looking kitchen and walked out after ordering our food. They tried to make us pay but when I intimated that I worked for environmental health, which I do not, they went very quiet and let us go unmolested. While in the car park we saw others going into the place and told them. Some continued and others turned around and left. I did report them to the authorities and 2 days later they were closed down. The report in the papers mentioned rat and mouse droppings and cockroaches. Add to that the food congealed in dirty ovens and work surfaces and the poor management of meat in the fridges this place was a death trap. They were closed for 3 months and opened to a fanfare of publicity for the "refurbishment".

Sorry to say they were closed down for good within three months.

  28. it should be clean & relaxing.

  29. the overall ambiance has to be right, as well as being very clean (especially the toilets) and then the service has to be good as well, if all those are in place then the proprietor would surely make sure he had a decent chef to go along with all the other points in making a good restaurant

  30. Well I like it to be clean and tidy , obviously the quality and variety of food available is the main factor when you decide to eat there , and so long as it meets any cleanliness regulations I don't care too much on what it looks like

I would also be looking for it to be comfortable

  31. yes of course,

ie if its dirty and decrepid  that straight away will put you off your food

its all in the psychology ie the ambience the lighting , the decor the staff etc, which will determine or alter if or if not you enjoy your meal
