  1. They can be redeemed at a bank, but are not for use to be transferred to other people such as shops.

But the promise written on the note by the chief cashier of the Bank of England is a permanent promise, so the note can always be redeemed by them.

  2. he is right.. obselete notes are no longer legal tender.

these are the bank notes, pictures and dates:

    £5 Duke of Wellington 11 November 1971 to  29 November 1991

    £5 George Stephenson 7 June 1990 to 21 November 2003

£5 Elizabeth Fry 21 May 2002 in use

  3. The Bank of England make new notes every few years. As soon as the new notes are in public circulations the old ones become invalid currency.

  4. http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/publicati...

  5. that sounds wrong to me but go to the nearest bank and ask them as they will know.

hopefully your right so you can shove  it in his face!! :) lol

  6. Out of date,New ones have a silver foil cicle on them, Your bank should change it for you,

  7. what??? how do you know the fiver was issued in 1990?

  8. The notes have been changed several times since then - you'd have to take it to a bank and your shop keeper is well within his rights not to accept it...
