  1. "Has anyone been to Thailand?"  Yes, over 12 million tourists go to Thailand every year.   You don't mention where you are flying from, different countries different prices for plane tickets!

Find a nearby travel agent and get info on which airlines fly from your country to Asia and Thailand.   Check those airline websites for round trip prices to Thailand.  There are "bucket shops" and discounters that can also can also give you prices for plane tickets.

With the current price of oil plane tickets have been quite a bit higher this year compared to last year.  When you check prices check a few days before or after your best date and see if the price changes.  Sometimes prices near holidays are higher priced (Christmas, New Years Day, Chinese New Year for instance.)  Sometimes flights leaving on weekends are more expensive than week days. From North America the price of plane fare usually lowers in September until Thanksgiving holiday comes up.

No problem with finding drinking water, it is pretty cheap.  Thailand has modern supermarkets and lots of Seven Eleven type stores all over the place.  Food is probably cheaper in Thailand than in your own country.  Hotels can be found in many price ranges.  Sample hotel list:

    http://www.thaiwebsites.com/hotels-sukhu...

When you ask for hotel recommendation mention how much you want to pay per night to narrow down the suggestions you get.  Hotel prices start to go into "high season" late October until around March.     Even during high season you can still find low price hotels, especially in smaller cities and towns.

Thailand has modern malls, lots of travel agents for arranging tours, lots of street vendors, restaurants and bars. Popular cities to visit are Bangkok of course, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Pattaya.   Very easy to get tours in Thailand.  Change your money over to Thai baht after you get to Thailand for the best rate.

Get a hotel near the Skytrain in Bangkok so you can use that overhead transportation to get around town.  Check the below travel forums for specific information on taking taxi rides from the airport and in town.  Local transportation is pretty cheap compared to Europe or N. America.  Excellent long distance bus service and train service.

    Enjoy yourself in Thailand.

  2. Yes, Thailand is easy to get to but it will depend on where you are travelling from.  If in Asia there are a lot of cheap flights.  If from Europe you may have to travel Thai, Sing or Malaysian air which may be expensive with the fuel levy.  Suggest you try booking to Singapore and taking either Jetstar or Tiger Air etc.

Food is going to be Thai predominantly, of course.  You would need to like spicy food unless you want farang (foreigner) food. You need to be careful with the food especially if you come with a "western" stomach.  In Bangkok the hotels are safe and the major shopping centres are mostly safe.  Avoid street vendors unless completely necessary.  Bottled water is available most places but check the bottle seal carefully to see that the bottle hasn't been re-used. If in doubt - pass, go to next shop.

Outside of Bangkok, it depends where you are going.  I suggest that you do some research as there are many places to go.  South to Phuket  or Koh Samui or north to Chang Mai and surrounds. There are literally thousands of places to go.  Depends on your interest but I do suggest that you do your own research.

  3. I have friends that go there 3 times a year. They say the best thing to do is book a return flight (varies between £700-£1000) and then find a cheap hotel when you get there (usually about £40 a week). The reason they do this is because they travel around the country. There is always places to buy mineral water and they say the food out there is cheap and fantastic!
