personally i would use spray paint.

If you don't want to contend with rust later or if it already has some rust, I swear by Rustoleum Primer for metal and the Rustoleum Metal spray paint.  I've used all other types of metal paints and have a lot of wrought and cast iron both inside and outdoors at my home and it is THE bomb.  Hammerite is the worst and will allow rust to bubble through in short order (like less than a year).  The Rustoleum not only encapsulates any rust that there is and all you have to do is wire brush it off, but it also has inhibitors so it won't come back nor will new rust appear.  I wasted a lot of money on other products until I discovered this gem.
