  1. Sonar imaging uses low frequency sound waves to calculate the distance of objects under water.  By emitting waves that travel through a known speed through water, a distance can be calculated by measuring the time it takes for that wave to reflect off of said object and return to the detector.  by using a wide scan, the topography of the surrounding area can be mapped quite precisely.


  2. It send a beam of sound down to the bottom and it bounces back up
