  1. Why must the environment aspects to be carefully looked into?

    This are the reasons:

    -Flood Plains

When a dam is created across a river, it blocks the water flow of the upper stream of the dam, causing water to spill out into what is called a flood plain. Over 400,000 square kilometers of the earth have been flooded due to damming. The newly created reservoir has more surface area than the river would have had, and therefore more evaporation occurs than is normal. This can lead to a loss of up to 2.1 meters of water per year. Typically, the areas surrounding river banks are of a particularly rich bio-diversity, and flooding these areas tends to endanger the diverse habitats. Replacement of these areas by the comparatively uniform ecosystem of a reservoir creates habitat for a much smaller range of species.

    -Breaking up the ecosystem

As you know after the flood of the upper stream of the dam occurs,it will cause destruction of ecosystem.Forest will went under the water, animal will be drowned. So,if we build more and more dams without concerning the effects, wildlife would have less home and soon, there will began to live with us(Do you want an elephant or a tiger appears in your neighborhood?)

-Flow rate of the down stream of the river

This will also give a impact to the landscape.the water level retreats or increase. In the increases case,if enginners didn't do the right maths,it will cause erosions. While decreasing the water level might affect the life of other plants that live near the river.

  2. we must NOT build huge dams series of small ones is much better

    Huge dams silt up

    totally disrupt eco systems .

interrupt the natural flow of life in the rivers affecting both up and down

removing migrating components from the food chains .

Looking carefully into Environmental aspects has been done many times over ,we already know what happens.

forests both above and below the dams begin to loose many species of trees almost immediately

because predator movement has changed and browsing animals that were kept on the run now eat the young trees that sprout up

or other species become invasive .like leaf cutter ants which when in excess kill many trees.

fish and prawn populations will be the heaviest affected many may even become extinct.because migrations to breeding grounds are disrupted in the rivers above and below the dam

  3. ya know i wish i had other people around to do my homework when i was a kid...

  4. In addition to the other answers, damns cause sediments to fall to the bottom of the reservoir, slowly reducing the capacity of the dam.  Also, organic matter builds up on the bottom and breaks down with little oxygen, producing methane.  Methane is a potent greenhouse gas.
