  1. Kubla Khan is the name of a story written by Coleridge that is about Chinese-Mongolian emperor Kublai Khan who was a very powerful leader back then.

  2. there's an interesting discussion about this poem in one episode of the show 'Studio 60 on the Sunset strip'

They talk about Coleridge waking up and writing the poem after dreaming about it and that he was interrupted while writing which is why the poem is incomplete and its full title is "Kubla Khan or, a Vision In a Dream: A Fragment"

After reading through it twice I find Coleridge at first painting a picture of a paradise created by Coleridge that is ruined by nature. That isn't all that's there though.

  3. It is actually a fantastical poem based upon the actual figure,  Kubla Khan, whose capital was a place called Xanadu. Though there is much disagrement about the poem's meaning, most commentators agree that it was inspired by Coleridge's opium habit. If you want to see the poem, just enter "kubla khan and coleridge" at the flashing cursor above this page.
