http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, says Damien Fleming – Cricket News Update
Former Australian fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MG-Johnson-c1945, will be able to retain his place in the national Test squad only if he performs well in the upcoming clash against South Africa.
Although, the Kangaroos won the recent Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, Johnson failed to show his magic with the ball.
In the three-match Test series, the 29-year-old paceman could only manage to grab six wickets at an average of 52.16. On the other hand, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Harris-c2330 displayed a far better show than the Queensland-born bowler.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harris-c61739, who missed the last Test following a hamstring strain, outperformed Johnson by taking 11 wickets in a couple of matches.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s forthcoming tour to South Africa includes two Twenty20 Internationals, three ODIs and a couple of 5-day games.
Fleming believes that since there are many quality pacers waiting for their turn, Johnson will have to come up with something special against the Proteas in a bid to secure his place in the setup.
Talking to Fox Sports, Fleming said, “There is pressure on for spots and that’s what happens to good teams. I’d say he’d play the first Test against South Africa, but I’d say he’d want to be getting wickets there because if Ryan Harris is fit, Siddle has
just had a good Test (in Colombo) and Copeland will be pretty handy in those conditions.”
“Certainly (Johnson) would be wanting to be performing near the top going into this South African series. Otherwise there is a good depth of fast bowlers around,” added the former speed-star who represented Australia in 20 Tests.
While many questions are being raised on Johnson future, the captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, backed the left-arm seamer, saying that Johnson still has enough energy to do well at the highest level of the game.
In his fresh talk with media, he shared that it will surely be a difficult job for the selectors, including him, to decide the final playing XI for the first Test against South Africa, set to be played from November 9 to November 13, 2011.
