Umar, Imranullah shine as Multan and NBP game ends in a tie
A Group B encounter between Multan Tigers and National Bank of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 (NBP) ended up in a tie in the ongoing Faysal Bank National One Day Tournament on Tuesday.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Multan-c819 Tigers will be happy with the result as they are considered one of the weakest teams in Division One, while NBP is rated as one of the top teams in the domestic cricket of Pakistan.
At the Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Fawad Alam won the toss for NBP and invited Multan Tigers to bat first. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the young Multan side as openers Zain Abbas and Imranullah Aslam got their side off to a blazing start. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zain-Abbas-c98522 struck his second hundred of the ongoing tournament to help his team post a competitive total of 267 runs on the board before being bowled out in the 49th over of the innings.
Zain Abbas scored 122 runs off just 117 balls, which included 8 fours and 4 towering sixes. Imranullah Aslam consumed 90 balls for his 78 in which he smashed 8 boundaries. Both of them put together 160 runs for the first wicket partnership.
However, the middle order batsmen could not compliment the performance of their openers and disappointed big time. Only two other batsmen were able to reach double figures which resulted in Multan failing to post a bigger total on the board.
One Test wonder, Mohammad Talha picked up four wickets for NBP and remained the pick of the bowlers. Right-arm seamer Uzair-ul-Haq also impressed by claiming three wickets.
Chasing a fighting total, NBP got off to a bad start as opener Nasir Jamshed fell cheaply. The bankers were soon in trouble as none of the batsmen apart from Test cricketer Umar Amin were able to cope with the pressure of chasing a total. However, a couple of cameos late in the order by wicketkeeper Amin-ur-Rehman and Uzair-ul-Haq made sure that NBP equalled the Mutlan Tigers score, but failed to cross the line on the last ball of the match.
Umar Amin showed his class as he scored a run-a-ball121 before he was run out. He struck 12 fours and a six in his stunning knock. Amin-ur-Rehman scored 39 runs off 50 balls with the help of four boundaries. While Uzair-ul-Haq also chipped in with 32 runs, which came off 42 balls and included a four and a couple of massive sixes.
Imranullah Aslam, who starred with the bat was also the pick of the bowlers for Multan Tigers, as he displayed a brilliant all-round effort. He took four wickets for just 41 runs in his 10 overs. Tahir Maqsood picked up a couple of wickets whereas http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sharif-c89762 claimed a scalp each.
Although Umar Amin and Zain Abbas struck brilliant centuries, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imranullah-Aslam-c64264 was named as the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance with both bat and ball.
